Broken down on the motorway? This is how it works with FAST
On the Flemish motorways, and also on the hard shoulder and the car parks along the motorway, a fixed arrangement applies. A vehicle that can no longer drive is removed there by the FAST breakdown recovery that the Flemish government has designated for that stretch of motorway. This also applies to lorries. So at that moment you do not choose yourself who comes.
Where we do help: afterwards. The FAST breakdown recovery takes your lorry safely off the motorway, usually to their depot. From there Faster can collect it and take it to your own garage, the brand dealer or your home base, even if that is in the Netherlands, France or further. If your lorry is on an ordinary road, on business premises or in a car park off the motorway, you can call us right away.
Too wide, too high or too heavy: exceptional transport
In Belgium, a transport becomes exceptional as soon as it exceeds the legal dimensions. The limits that most often apply: 2.55 metres wide, 4 metres high and 44 tonnes for a combination with five axles. A loaded excavator or a high coach quickly goes over that.
Then a low loader and a permit are needed. In Flanders that permit comes from the Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer. We arrange the trailer, look at the route and make sure the papers are in order before the vehicle sets off.
What does a HGV breakdown recovery cost?
A fixed price for every lorry does not exist, and anyone who promises you one over the phone without asking questions is guessing. What determines the price:
- the weight and the type: an empty tractor unit, a loaded combination or a bus;
- where the vehicle is and how accessible it is;
- the distance to the destination;
- the time: in the middle of the night or on a Sunday;
- what needs to happen on site: just towing, loading, or first righting it with a crane.
You get the price in advance. For transport companies with several lorries, we can make fixed arrangements, so that the planner does not have to negotiate first when there is a breakdown.
For transport companies and planners
Your driver is at the side of the road, your planner has a customer waiting for his load. We talk to both. With the driver about exactly where he is and whether he is safe, with the planner about where the lorry needs to go and when. We communicate in Dutch, French and English, handy if your driver is not from here.
Rather no surprises? Call us at a quiet moment, not only when something goes wrong. Then we already know which lorries you run and which garage they need to go to.
